Founder of The Small Elephant™ Creator of The Elephant Path™ Inventor of the Luma Timer™ Founder of RISE Society
Gretchen Kelsey is a systems thinker, entrepreneur, inventor, and mother of four who helps parents navigate the emotional and practical realities of raising neurodivergent children.
Through The Small Elephant™, she provides support for neurodivergent families who feel overwhelmed by information, decisions, advocacy, and the invisible mental load of parenting.
Lived Experience Shaped by Neurodivergent Family Life
Gretchen’s work grew from her own experience raising and advocating for a beautifully neurodiverse family.
Over the years, she has navigated autism, ADHD, sensory and auditory processing differences, emotional regulation challenges, developmental delays, therapy coordination, school advocacy, and IEP meetings.
Those experiences taught her that many parents do not need more disconnected advice. They need help making sense of what they are carrying, determining what matters most, and finding a manageable next step.
Make the Invisible Visible.
Creator of The Elephant Path™
The Elephant Path™ is Gretchen’s framework for helping parents turn invisible mental load into greater clarity and sustainable support. Rather than asking parents to solve everything at once, The Elephant Path™ helps them move forward one clear step at a time:
- Feel Seen — The Exhale
Recognize & name what you have been carrying. - Find Your Next Step — The Compass
Identify what matters most right now & what can wait. - Build Sustainable Support — The Herd
Create the relationships, resources, & rhythms that make family life manageable.
Founder of The Small Elephant™
The Small Elephant™ is a support community for parents raising autistic, ADHD, and neurodivergent children.
It brings together lived understanding, practical guidance, meaningful connection, and tools that help families feel less isolated and more confident about what comes next.
The name reflects a central belief behind Gretchen’s work: today’s challenges may describe where a child or family is now, but they do not define what may become possible tomorrow.

"I didn’t create this work because I had all the answers. I created it because I needed a map—and couldn’t find one."
Inventor of the Luma Timer™
Gretchen is also the inventor of the patent-pending Luma Timer™, a visual tool designed to make time easier to understand for neurodivergent minds.

Because time is invisible and abstract, transitions and routines can become stressful for children who experience time differently. The Luma Timer™ makes passing time visible, helping families create clearer expectations and calmer daily rhythms.
The Luma Timer™ and The Elephant Path™ share the same purpose: making invisible challenges easier to understand, navigate, and carry.
"Today's observation does not lock in tomorrow's potential. Don't let a diagnosis direct your limitations."

Supporting Parents Strengthens Families
Gretchen believes supporting a neurodivergent child and supporting the parent are inseparable.
When parents feel understood, have practical support, and know what to focus on next, they have more capacity to care for themselves, advocate for their children, and create steadier family rhythms.
That is the work of The Small Elephant™.
