Community FAQs

Find clear answers about The Small Elephant, The Elephant Path Community, membership, privacy, support options, and what to expect as you get started.

  • What is the Elephant Path Community?

The Elephant Path Community is a private membership for parents raising neurodiverse children—a thoughtfully curated space to connect with parents who understand, ask the questions you're carrying, share what you've learned, and find helpful resources and connection along the way.

Rather than another noisy social media group, it's a smaller, more intentional community built around privacy, meaningful conversation, and deliberate connection—so you can find your people without having to search through all the noise.

  • What happens inside the community?

Think of it as a private social space built specifically for parents raising neurodiverse children—organized around the things you're actually trying to understand, navigate, and find support for.

    Inside, members can:

    • Ask questions, start conversations, and share what they're navigating
    • Connect with parents who understand the realities behind the questions
    • Find conversations and resources around school, therapies, regulation, routines, relationships, financial help, and more
    • Share recommendations, resources, and lived experience
    • Celebrate the little victories—and have somewhere to go on the hard days
    • Connect through the member directory, member-led conversations, virtual calls, and in-person gatherings

The Small Elephant thoughtfully creates and cares for the space, while members bring the community to life. This is a place to use, contribute to, and make your own—a more private, intentional way to find your people without navigating the noise of public social media.

  • Is participation required?

No. Some members post and connect often. Others prefer to read, browse resources, or simply spend some time getting a feel for the community before joining in.

There’s no expectation to share before you feel comfortable. You’re welcome to participate in whatever way works for you.

  • Is this a Facebook group?

No. The community is hosted in a private, thoughtfully curated member space designed to reduce distractions, protect privacy, and make it easier to find the conversations, resources, and people you're looking for.

  • Is my privacy protected?

Privacy is a priority here. The community is intentionally private because we know many parents don't feel comfortable discussing their families in public spaces.

Members are expected to respect one another's privacy, keep personal stories shared within the community private, and help maintain a respectful environment.

We also ask everyone to be thoughtful about what they choose to share about themselves and their families.

While we can't guarantee the actions of individual members, protecting the privacy and trust of this community is something we take seriously.

  • What makes this different from parenting groups online?

    Privacy, curation, and intentional connection.

The Small Elephant is designed to make it easier to find the conversations, resources, and people relevant to what you're actually navigating—without searching through the noise of a large public feed.

You don't have to know exactly what you're looking for when you arrive. Start with where you are, and find your way from there.

  • Will people actually understand what we’re going through?

That is one of the core reasons this community exists.

Every family’s experience is different, but this is a space built around shared lived experience—where you’re more likely to meet parents who understand the context behind the question, without needing every part of it explained first.

You may not find someone whose story looks exactly like yours. But you may find someone who recognizes a piece of it.

  • What if I already feel overwhelmed and stretched thin?

Then you don't need another thing asking more of you.

The community is designed to be something you can use when and how you need it—ask a question, look for a resource, connect with another parent, or simply read for a while.

There’s no expectation to keep up, participate regularly, or do anything with what you find here. Start with where you are.

  • Is this practical support or emotional support?

Both—but not necessarily in the way you might expect.

Sometimes support looks like finding a resource, getting a recommendation, or hearing how another parent navigated something similar. Other times, it’s having somewhere to say, “This is hard,” and finding people who understand why.

The community makes room for both the practical and the human parts of raising a neurodiverse child.

  • Is this therapy?

No. This community is not therapy, crisis intervention, or clinical treatment. It’s a place for parents to connect, share lived experience, exchange resources and ideas, and learn from one another.

  • What is The Elephant Path?

The Elephant Path™ is the framework that guides everything we create at The Small Elephant.

It is built on the belief that families need more than information—they need a way to make sense of what they're carrying, understand what matters now, and navigate what comes next.

Through three stages—See, Steady, and Strengthen—The Elephant Path helps parents move from feeling overlooked and overwhelmed toward greater understanding, clarity, and agency.
